Fine Arts

An education in beauty.

Beauty is one of God’s greatest gifts. Throughout history, artists and musicians have reflected His truth, goodness, and beauty through their work. At Redimere, we believe every child should become acquainted with these great works.

A Rich and Joyful Education

The Fine Arts Program

We desire for students to walk through an art museum recognizing the brushstrokes of Van Gogh or the dramatic light and shadow of Rembrandt. We desire for students to hear the elegance of Mozart or the power of Beethoven and immediately recognize the composer, and to choose to attend a symphony because they have learned to love beautiful music.

Our Approach

Each year, students become acquainted with four artists and four composers. They learn to recognize the techniques attributed to the masters and can recall their lives and lasting influence on their field. Dedicated time is given to the fine arts each week, and families are provided with resources to continue these studies together at home.

At Redimere, students mimic the techniques of real artists. They learn the techniques of the greats, using quality materials such as watercolor, oil pastels, charcoal, acrylics, and graphite. They develop careful observation through picture study, guided drawing, painting, and the keeping of nature journals. Likewise, students learn to listen attentively to great music, becoming familiar with musical vocabulary, instruments, styles, and composers while developing an appreciation for works that have shaped Western civilization.

Rather than treating art and music as isolated subjects, we weave the fine arts throughout the curriculum. Students encounter artists and composers alongside history, science, literature, Latin, Bible, and hymn study, helping them discover the rich connections between all fields of learning.

We believe children are capable of far more than we often expect. Given beautiful materials, excellent instruction, and great works worthy of their attention, they develop not only artistic skill, but also discernment, patience, observation, creativity, and gratitude.
