Rooted in awe and observation.
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the earth is full of His handiwork. At Redimere, science begins with wonder: the careful study of the beautiful, ordered, intricate world God has made.
At Redimere, the whole school studies the same science unit at the same time. Each year includes four major units, which spiral every four years through the major fields of natural philosophy. Because families are studying the same topics together, younger and older students can share discoveries, ask questions, and continue meaningful conversations around the dinner table and in everyday life.
Natural Philosophy
The Science Program
We desire for students to become attentive observers of creation — children who notice the shape of a leaf, the path of the stars, the habits of birds, the structure of the human body, and the quiet order woven throughout the natural world.
Our Approach
Science at Redimere is rooted in awe and observation. Before children are asked to explain the world, they are trained to attend to it: to look closely, listen carefully, sketch accurately, ask good questions, and notice what is actually there.
From Kindergarten through high school, students keep beautiful and orderly science journals. In these journals, they sketch, paint, label, record observations, document experiments, define vocabulary, and report their findings. These yearly journals mature as the student does.
Science is interconnected with every subject at Redimere. Students read about birds, stars, chemistry, machines, insects, weather, and the human body, but they measure and compare, classify and identify, sketch accurately, discuss discoveries, and write about their findings. They learn both about what God has made and how man has interacted with His creation over time.
Through our four-year science spiral, students revisit the major fields of science several times throughout their years at Redimere. Each time, the topic deepens: young students observe and wonder, middle school students classify and explain, and upper school students research, analyze, and report with increasing precision.
Students walk away from Redimere seeing science as an invitation to behold, investigate, understand, and give thanks.
